CULTIGEN
SUMO is proud to participate in the EUI-funded project CULTIGEN on sustainable tourism with a total budget of 35 million kroner. The National Museum's participation is based on SUMO's experience-based research approach (the NMD methodology). SUMO contributes to CULTIGEN with the cultural history-based citizen engagement project 'Myths and Bricks'. The results will be presented at ten different signature events in Copenhagen in 2026 and 2027.
CULTIGEN is an Innovative Actions project under the European Urban Initiative, running from December 2024 to May 2028.
The CULTIGEN project aims to develop sustainable strategies to manage tourism flows, prevent overtourism, and align residents’ needs with visitors’ expectations. CULTIGEN is led by the City of Copenhagen (Tourism, Internationalization, and Cultural Industries) and is realized in collaboration with Aalborg University, Storyhunt, Wonderful Copenhagen, We Do Democracy and the National Museum.
