The aim with this PhD research project is to investigate how AKB København, one of Copenhagen’s largest social housing associations, can strengthen the relationship between their 2030 strategy on sustainable urban development and the everyday life of the residents. The project is framed by the Danish government’s housing policy on ‘mixed social housing’ that considers social housing as key for creating a socially viable cities where residents live, thrive, and interact across social, cultural and economic divides. AKB København currently face the challenge of reduced civic participation in participatory processes and social activities, which is why their 2030 strategy focuses specifically on ‘engagement’ as way to ‘make it easy and fun for residents to realize ideas together’. Based on ethnographic research, the PhD project will deliver new and immediately applicable knowledge about the relationship between urban politics and everyday life for residents in Danish social housing estates.
