SUMO

The National Museum’s Research Center for Social Urban Modelling (SUMO) is an interdisciplinary research collective that focuses on socially sustainable urban development in a cultural historical perspective. SUMO is driven by the overall idea that past and present cities contain unique but still unexplored (social, cultural, architectural, technological) resources and capacities for making socially sustainable urban development. Through participatory research and exhibition projects, SUMO investigates and probes these resources and capacities in order to develop ‘social urban models’: Physical, knowledge-based and organisational models that may serve as a basis for imagining and making socially sustainable urban development now and in the future.
